The Holy Spirit || Part 8 (The Day of Pentecost)
The Holy Spirit || Part 8, Day 1
The Day of Pentecost
John 14:15-29 NKJV
“If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. “A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also. At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.” Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, “Lord, how is it that You will manifest Yourself to us, and not to the world?” Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me. “These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. You have heard Me say to you, ‘I am going away and coming back to you.’ If you loved Me, you would rejoice because I said, ‘I am going to the Father,’ for My Father is greater than I. “And now I have told you before it comes, that when it does come to pass, you may believe.”
Acts 2:1-4 NKJV
When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Salvation, the forgiveness of sins, being born again was purchased by Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary. The Bible says in Hebrews 9:22 that there is no remission of sin without the shedding of blood. When Jesus died on that cross, He purchased salvation for anyone and everyone who would repent of their sins, accept the finished work by faith, and believe on Him.
Beloved, at Passover salvation was purchased through Jesus. However, without the Day of Pentecost we would never have received it. Without the Day of Pentecost, we would still be lost in our sins. Why? Because without the Day of Pentecost we would have never heard there is salvation through Jesus. Without the Day of Pentecost, we would have never heard the gospel of Jesus Christ. Without the Day of Pentecost, we would think Jesus is still dead in a tomb.
Wait a minute preacher I think you might have this wrong. Then tell me how many people did the disciples win to Jesus Christ before the Day of Pentecost? How many sermons did they preach before the Day of Pentecost? As a matter of a fact they lost 380 people out of their church in 10 days. They were not winning people to Jesus, they were losing people!
Why am I bringing this point to you? Because the whole church celebrates Passover/Easter in a huge way. And we should celebrate Passover in a big way. But I’m here to tell you, Pentecost ought to be celebrated in a big way! Because, without Pentecost, the gift would have been purchased, but you would have never known your name was on the gift.
Could this be why the church is struggling to take over in these last days? Because we are shouting at Passover and stick our noses up at Pentecost. We believe Passover is for today, but have explained why Pentecost is not for today. Therefore, much of the church has a message of forgiveness that they have not preached. Because without Pentecost we are just like the disciples. We receive a message that we are too afraid to preach!
They had received the command to go into all the world and make disciples, but they were too afraid to preach it. They had received the message go and preach the gospel to every creature, but they were too afraid to obey it. They had received a message all authority in heaven and earth has been given unto Jesus, and to go therefore, but they were too afraid to go.
That’s why it’s important that preachers and leaders in the kingdom just like yourselves, awaken the body of Christ to the revelation of Pentecost. That’s why it’s important that we encourage people and new believers to be baptized with the Holy Spirit and fire. And that’s why it’s important that those of you who have been baptized with the Holy Spirit and fire, come to the altar on a regular basis, and receive fresh impartations from the Holy Ghost.
Let’s pray together...
