The Holy Spirit || Part 8 (The Day of Pentecost)
The Holy Spirit || Part 8, Day 2
The Day of Pentecost
John 14:15-29 NKJV
“If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. “A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also. At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.” Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, “Lord, how is it that You will manifest Yourself to us, and not to the world?” Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me. “These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. You have heard Me say to you, ‘I am going away and coming back to you.’ If you loved Me, you would rejoice because I said, ‘I am going to the Father,’ for My Father is greater than I. “And now I have told you before it comes, that when it does come to pass, you may believe.”
Acts 2:1-4 NKJV
When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
When we look at the Day of Pentecost in Acts 2 you could easily overlook what God did prior to pouring out His Spirit in that upper room. In other words, it would be easy to think that the Spirit was poured out that day and the people in that upper room just happened to be there. But that is not the truth and can be very misleading. God always pours His glory on that which has been separated first. This week, I want to point out some specific things that made the day of Pentecost so powerful.
THE SAINTS
There was a group of people that had been through a lot. They had seen Jesus beaten, ridiculed, and crucified. Then they saw Him buried in a tomb and went back to put spices on Him and He wasn’t there. Then for 40 days He would all of a sudden show up. Sometimes He fed them, sometimes He rebuked them, and other times He blessed them.
This group of people go up to an upper room and start praying and assembling together. Over the next 10 days God does something special in their hearts. Over that 10 days their hearts and spirits start to be knitted together. They go from arguing over who’s going to be the greatest to being willing to die with one another and for one another. In that upper room…
…Their personal agendas started coming down.
…Their selfish ambitions started falling by the wayside.
…Their cultural differences were no longer in the way.
…Their political preferences turned into prophetic presence.
This group of people allowed God to do something so heavenly and supernatural that they become one people in one place in one accord. Oh God, do it in the body of Christ in this present day! God is ready to bring His church back to one people. Not a white people, not a black people, not an Asian people or any other type of earthly people. No, He’s wanting to bring His church back to one people. Not just one people, but one people in one accord.
God is bringing His people back to one place. God is wanting to separate His people. God is not trying to have a zoom church. God is not trying to have couch church. No. He’s bringing His people back to one place. That place is not a country club, or a community gathering. That place is not a popularity contest, or a Hollywood show.
The place I’m speaking of is the church of the Lord Jesus! It’s the place where everyone is welcome, everyone can come as they are, and no one will stay as they are. It’s the place where the gifts of the Holy Ghost move and edify the people. It’s the place where the corporate anointing is present and falls upon all who are hungry. It’s the place where you realize you are not alone and there are many others who have your back. It’s the place where the Word of God is preached under the anointing and supernatural manifestations of the Spirit break out. It’s the place where you are covered, protected, and prosperous. It’s the place where peace, unity, and love become the glue that binds us together.
The place He’s bringing His people back to is the place where His name dwells. He’s bringing His people back to the church! What He’s doing right now is placing a hunger back in His people for the church again. The days of having to beg people to come to church are over! If you have to be begged to come to church, you won’t make it. You are not going to make it because you lack a hunger. Today you need to ask God to put that hunger back in you again.
Let’s pray together...
